But, of course, since Paris is a young man ruled by his hormones, and without worldly sophistication, he chooses Aphrodite and is given Helen of Troy as his prize.

The Judgment of Paris is not a story about love, despite its surface-level storyline. Paris' prize, Helen of Troy, was already married, and their illicit affair caused the Trojan War. So, the story is about human choices, and on its deepest level, so is the sign of Libra.

This month, our choices matter, so we need to make them carefully!

August is here, and it's time to welcome Virgo season! In Kabbalah, this month of Elul is associated with the cosmic process of repentance (Teshuvah). This is where we take stock of our actions throughout the year, reflect on their root cause, make amends when necessary, and try to avoid repeating the same mistakes in the future.

This week, our V.I.P (Very Important Planet) is Venus, the goddess of love.  However, Venus will go through  difficulties forming a difficult aspect to Neptune and moving into Virgo, the sign of her fall. When Venus is struggling, expect relationship squabbles and financial hiccups. Self-doubt might creep in, and socializing can feel awkward. Creativity hits a roadblock too. It’s like Venus is having a bad hair day, throwing off your groove. Be patient, love yourself, and maybe indulge in some chocolate!

This week’s major player is the Sun.  In astrology, the Sun reflects our life force and our ability to become our unique self.  As the major player of the week, the Sun instructs us to focus on our own personal destiny and our path to continue to transform and evolve as an individual.

I must admit that I may be biased this month being a Leo, but I hope my exuberance over the sign can be a catalyst for inner change, transformation, and some good ole’ magic.

Leo season is ruled by the Sun, and in Greek myth the Sun is associated with the God Apollo.  Now, Apollo has quite the resume – he is the Sun God, a cosmocrator, he removes curses, he is the god of music and the father of the nine muses, and he is also a god of healing.

Since the Sun is the center of the solar system, it is not surprising that Apollo governs so many facets of life.  Likewise, we can use the energy of the Sun to perform potent magic.  And guess what?  You don’t need any sunscreen!

When people think of the sign of Leo (and again I am biased), they think of showy, extroverted types that need to be the center of attention.  Leo is considered a ‘creator type’ because they are often involved in the performing arts.  However, the deeper core of what Leo is creating has little to do with entertaining the masses – entertaining is simply a byproduct.  Instead, each creation, each part, and each role gets them closer to what they long for – being themselves.
